"At the start of my term, I promised that I would leave the country better than what it was before... In my last speech with my bosses and with the diplomatic corps, I can say that I have lived up to that promise," Aquino said during his speech at Vin D' Honneur in celebration of the 118th commemoration of Philippines' independence day.
The people who will prove his claim, according to Aquino, are the people who have benefited from the administration's accomplishments for the past six years.
"The beneficiaries of Philhealth, TESDA (Technical Education Skills Development Assistance) and the students in their classroom know that it is true," he said.
Aquino also touted the economic accomplishments of his administration and proclaimed that the Philippines is no longer “The Sick Man of Asia.” Rather, he said, it is “The New Darling of Asia.”
"We attained what we have by following due process and respecting the rights of every individual...We achieved everything without oppressing anyone," the president said.
He then urged the filipino people to continue fighting for democracy the country has fought for 118 years ago.
"To the filipino people, may we never lose our patience with the way of democracy,
And may we never take it for granted," he said.
And may we never take it for granted," he said.
"To our hard won Filipino freedom, may it never be again challenged, diminished or negated," added Aquino.
