World Health Organization declares birth defect linked to Zika virus a public health emergency.

Yesterday,1st February,the World Health Organization declared that, the recent sequence of birth defects and neurological disorders linked to Zika virus infection is considered a public health emergency of international concern.
WHO director general ,Margaret Chan in a press conference said that,the link between the mosquito-borne virus and birth defects has not been scientifically proven, however experts suspect a causal relationship between Zika virus and microcephaly, a condition that leaves babies with abnormally small heads.
Despite the emergency status, Chan said there was no justification for restriction of travels to countries hit by Zika. She however, advised that, women should focus on avoiding mosquito bites by wearing long sleeves and trousers and using insect repellent and mosquito nets.
