According to world class definition,Instant noodles are dried or precooked noodles and are often sold with packets of flavoring including seasoning oil.
Dried noodles are usually eaten after being cooked or soaked in boiling water, while precooked noodles can be reheated or eaten straight from the packet.
The main ingredients used in dried noodles are wheat flour, palm oil, and salt. Common ingredients in the flavoring powder are salt, monosodium glutamate, seasoning, and sugar.
The story behind Instant Noodles Consumption
It all started with a Taiwanese-Japanese inventor Momofuku Ando in Japan. The instant noodle was first marketed on 25 August 1958 by Ando's company, Nissin, under the brand name Chikin Ramen .
Ando developed the production method of flash frying noodles after they had been made, creating the "instant" noodle. This dried the noodles and gave them a longer shelf life, even exceeding that of Frozen noodles . Each noodle block was pre-seasoned and sold for 35 yen.At that time only the rich could afford it.However following thw way MItsubishi Corportion promotions instant noodles beacme very popular.
In 1971, Nissin started producing cup noodles , instant noodles packed in aa polystyrene cup , to which boiling water is added to cook the noodles. With time,dried vegetables were added to the cup, creating a complete instant soup dish.
The Rapid Spread of Instant Noodle
The spread of Instant noodle consumption was so fast that as at 2010, approximately 95 billion servings of instant noodles are eaten worldwide every year. China consumes 42 billion packages of instant noodles per year – 44% of world consumption – Indonesia, 14 billion; Japan, 5.3 billion, Vietnam 4.8 billion, USA 4 billion. Per capita, South Koreans consume the greatest amount of instant noodles, 69 per capita per year.
The global demand for instant noodles complied by World Instant Noodle Association in 2013, Nigeria was reputed to be the largest instant noodles consumer in Africa and the 12th largest consumer in the world.
Today there are lots of brand names all over the world,this includes but not limited to Nestles, Yum yum, Nissin cup Noodles,Indomie,Dangote,Golden penny,Chikki,Maggi brands and several others.
Several brands has also produced different flavours over the years.The most popular are onion,chicken,chicken curry, beef,chicken Soto,chicken soup,hot and spicy,pork,shrimp just to mention a few.
Nutritional Quality of Noodles Basically, Noodles are high in carbohydrates and fat but low in fibre, vitamins and minerals Typical instant noodle has 9% protein, 30% fat and 55% carbohydrate. Instant noodles also have high salt.Therefore be discreet in consumption.
