The Agenda 2063 Press Conference was held in Lagos on Saturday, 2nd of April 2016. The conference was conveyed by Nigerian delegates to the AU Agenda 2063 Youth Summit in Addis Ababa and was designed to create public awareness on the Agenda 2063 in Nigeria while creating local working groups to drive the implementation of the agenda.
At the end of the event, the participants of the Agenda 2063 Press Conference resolved that:
⦁ the Agenda 2063 must be driven by the youths
⦁ Nigerian youths should start local actions towards achieving the Agenda 2063
⦁ the five local working groups created should commence the implementation of the Agenda 2063 in Nigeria
⦁ the Nigerian President have a government appointee that will oversee the implementation of the Agenda 2063 in Nigeria
⦁ the government should uphold and implement all documents and agreements it signed as a member nation of the African Union
⦁ the African Youth Charter in Nigeria be fully ratified
⦁ the National assembly make Africa-oriented laws that will aid the achievement of Agenda 2063
⦁ the gender equality bill be quickly in Nigeria in line with 2016 being the African Union's year for Human Rights and Gender Equality
⦁ the Child Rights law be adopted by the thirteen Nigerian states that are yet to do so
⦁ the Nigerian constitution be modified to remove all ambiguity as regards the legal age of marriage in Nigeria.
⦁ the Nigeria government support or continue to support the decolonization of the three African countries still under colonial rule including Chagos Archipelago, Comorian Island of Mayotte and Western Sahara
⦁ Pan-Africanism should be incorporated as a core course in our schools and institutions
⦁ the government should support the move to reduce the borders in Africa to enhance intra-Africa trade
⦁ a cooperate policy be developed that will mandate multinationals in Africa to employ Africans as core members of their staff
⦁ the government should promote the use of clean energy for cooking and automobiles
⦁ more hubs should be created for waste recycling in Nigeria
⦁ the government effectively regulate mining activities in the country
⦁ civic education should be thought in all levels of primary education in Nigeria
⦁ Nigerian youths must begin participation in governance by registering with political parties
⦁ Pan-Africanism should be incorporated as a core course in our schools and institutions
