Blame pipeline Vandals not us - Electiricty distributors enjoin Nigerians

Nigerians has been cautioned by the Association of Nigeria Electricity Distributors of Nigeria(DISCOs) to stop blaming them for the poor supply of electricity being experienced nationwide.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos yesterday May 17th,the Executive Director of the Association, Sunday Oduntan, said electricity distributors are denied access to gas whenever vandals rupture any pipeline in the Niger Delta.

He also descried the acts of brutality electricity workers face in the hands of military officers over electricity bills.

"Each time they vandalize gas pipeline in Niger Delta, or anywhere, they are denying the gas station the essential gas which is used to generate electricity. So shortage of gas leads to low generation of electricity. Low generation and poor transmission facility leads to low distribution. Therefore, Discos are not to blame for poor power supply in Nigeria. There is a place in Abeokuta called Alamala barracks, some soldiers led by a major from Alamala barracks went to a place called Rounder to beat one of our individual staff and we have the pictures of this incident. Up till today, nothing has been done by the military authority. We call on the Federal government, particularly President Buhari who is a retired general, to call his boys to order. We cannot continue to run a country where the military will be beating our boys when we are only asking them to pay their bills"he said
