The Nigerian Senate withdraws Anti- Social Media Bill.

 The antisocial media bill sponsored by Sentaor Bala Ibn Na’Allah was withdrawn yesterday, May 17 at the plenary seating of the Nigerian Senate following the report of the Committee on Judiciary Human Rights and Legal Matters.

    Senator Dino Melaye during the deliberation said that if the bill is passed, it will work against Whistleblowers who provide information to the police and other security agents.
 

  In the same manner,Senator Shehu Sani also noted that the bill if passed will stifle the press and also silence social media. He commended the senate committee on Judiciary for standing against the passage of the bill.

     The bill was dropped following the unanimous response of the senators which was posed by the Deputy Senate President,Ike Ekweremadu
