It's National Ranch Dressing Day today- March 10

 Ranch dressing is a type of salad dressing made of some combination of buttermilk,salt, garlic,onion,herbs(commonly chives ,parsley,and dill ), and spices (commonly black pepper,paprika and ground mustard seeds ), mixed into a sauce based on mayonnaise or another oil emulsion. Sour cream and yoghurt are sometimes used as a substitute by some home cooks or to create a lower-fat version. Ranch dressing has been the best-selling salad dressing in the United States since 1992, when it overtook italian dressing It is also popular as a dip.

Kenneth Henson invented Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing. This Nebraska born cowboy headed west to strike it rich. In 1949 he first went to Alaska where he was employed as a plumbing contractor. He also was the cook for his fellow workers. In Alaska he refined a recipe for buttermilk dressing.                                                                                         

Later the Hensons, Kenneth and his wife, went to Santa Barbara, Ca. where they bought the Hidden Valley Ranch. They ran it as a dude ranch. Kenneth also served delicious meals. His house dressing became a favorite among guests and visitors. Even though the ranch didn't do well the dressing did. It became Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing. He first sold it in local stores It became very popular.. Later in 1973, the Clorox Company bought the dressing rights from Hanson. Clorox changed the mix so that you didn't have to have buttermilk and could use regular milk. They had added a buttermilk flavoring.

By 1992 Ranch Dressing became the most popular dressing in America

To make healthy homemade ranch salad dressing,you use coconut milk ,low fat yoghurt and avocado as base instead of the usual buttermilk and mayonnaise.
