President Buhari has stated clearly that the Federal government will no longer provide opportunity for Nigerian studying abroad as well those seeking fro medical attention abroad, according to him, such transactions are affecting the Naira badily. This declaration is in contrast to that of the CBN,who affirmed Nigerians last month that such transaction was still in progress:
“The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) wishes to clarify to the general public that it has NOT stopped the allocation and sale of foreign exchange for purposes of paying school fees and settlement of medical bills overseas,” Ibrahim Mu’azu, the apex bank’s Director of Corporate Communications, said.
During a very recent interview with AlJazeera, the president said clearly that “We can’t just afford it. That is just the true situation,”
He went on to say that, anyone making profit by trading dollar would be punished:
“Anybody who was given dollars by the CBN to import pharmaceuticals and decided to sell at parallel market in order to make maybe additional N100, we will pursue them and punish them,” he said
So many Nigerians are already stranded abroad especially the students,a good number has not been able to pay their tuition for the ongoing school let alone those who are away for medical treatment year.
