Olumoye Abdulazeez, AMLSN UBTH chapter chairman, who briefed newsmen, yesterday, on the allegation, said that the action by the UBTH management conflicts with the statutory role of the teaching hospital to serve as a referral government institution that provides essential and cost effective health care delivery services to patients in the region. Olumoye said,
“What is observed is connivance between the management and this so called private firm with office in Benin city, a pointer to the fact that the present management of UBTH has failed to comply with President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s policy on treasury single account.”
“This is a clear indication of sabotage on the government structural programme for every Nigerians to have access to good and quality health care services. This is not far from the fact that there is a problem between the management and members of our association since the present C.M.D., had in the past threatened to frustrated lab scientists in UBTH from enjoying a healthy working environment as he had chosen to deprived our member of their due entitlement.”
The association which berated the management for not paying listening ears to resolved standing issues which led to the present work-to-rule action re-embarked upon by its members since February 14, 2016, said,
“Rather chose to embark on series of litigations brought against staffers, it has now resort to use public fund to hire a private laboratory diagnosis services in UBTH at the detriment of the unsuspecting patients who will now have to pay exorbitant fee for laboratory analysis. “We call the attention of the general public and government of the day to be aware of this unwholesome activities in what should have been government and not private owned institution.”
“This is an action capable of jeopardising the good intentions of the Federal Government in operating the T.S.A because money that would have being met for the government is now diverted into private pulse. “Therefore, we urge the Federal Government to call the present chief medical director to order so as to avert unnecessary hardship being meted on the patients due to the high-headedness of the management, as we are ready to work but the management is not willing to cooperate,” he added.
